Craps Terminology

Any Craps – This is a type of bets in which the players expect next dice roll to be 2, 3, or even 12.

Any 7 – the bets in which next dice total shall be 7.

Back line – refer don’t pass line.

Bar the 12 – in this case number 12 is considered as tie bet and the house edge has better odds for a number of bets including don’t come and don’t pass.

Betting right – players place their bets on come section and pass line on the layout.

Betting wrong – opposite of betting right and so players may bet on don’t come or don’t pass bets.

Big 8 & 6 – a type of bets in which players are expected to yield 8 or 6 before 7.

Boxman – a person who is in charge in Craps instead of Croupier or dealer.

Buy 4 & 10 – this is a type of bet on number 4 & 10 where the payout is 2:1 and 5% tax.

Change color – this is referred to when players change the color of the chips they use.

Chips or checks – used as a value for money to trade.

Come bet – this is placed right after outcome roll.

Come box – the place where bettors bet for come wager.

Come- out roll – point for don’t pass or pass that needs to be the outcome before the bets are placed.

Craps – when the out come of the dice is 2, 3, or even 12.

Crap out – when the out come of the first roll is 2, 3, or 12.

Crew – an employee of the casino who runs the tables.

Dealer – a casino employee.

Dice – numbered cubes used to play craps on the tables.

Dice (Puck) – used to display the outcome of the dice roll and is black on one side and white on other.

Don’t come bet – this is when players bet against dice and is placed only after first roll.

Don’t pass bets – when players bet for 7 as outcome of roll and is placed before dice roll.

Don’t pass line­ – This lets players place don’t pass wager.

Double odds bet – players are allowed to double bets with free odds on don’t pass, pass, don’t come and come bets.

Easy way – a dice roll in which out come is 4, 6, 8 or even 10. Players may not get pairing numbers.

Edge – this type wager is when casino has the advantages with house probability.

Even money – when players receive the amount equivalent to betting amount. So if a player bets $5 he gets $5 as winning amount.

Field bet – in this type of bets players wager on single roll. The next number expected can be 2, 3, 4, 12, 9 or 10.

Floorman – a term used for casino supervisor.

Free odds bets – a type of second bet that is placed on making don’t pass, pass or come bets.

Front line – a term used for pass line.

Hardway bet – when betting for a pair of 2, 3, 4,5 or number 7.

Horn bets – when betting on 2, 3, 11 or even 12.

Lay the odds – when betting this the player makes less money as compared to even bets when he gets the outcome number.

Lay wager – when betting against points and paying 5% as tax.

Layout – the grid present on the table of craps.

Nickels – a term used for $5 on the table.

Off – players who are not placing bets on the next dice roll.

On base – a term used for referring stickman.

One roll bets – a bet dependant on the outcome of next dice roll.

Pass – the term used when you win.

Pass line bet – a bet that is passed or won before outcome roll.

Payoff – what you win in your bets.

Pit boss – a person in charge of casino tables.

Place bets and numbers – when players bet on numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or even 10 to appear before 7.

Point number or point – the outcome of the dice roll (4, 5, 6, 9, or even 10).

Press (press a bet) – when doubling your bets.

Proposition bet – bets on the center of the table layout.

Quarters when players play a $25 bet.

Rails – place where players keep un-played chips.

7 out – when 7 is rolled right after point.

Shooter – person who throws dice at the craps table.

Stickman – a person who brings the chips and dice to the players.

Tip or Toke – a % of the winning amount.

Working – when players risk bets on next dice roll.

Wrong bettor – when placing bets against dice roll.
